Volunteering for an Oxfam-Québec cooperation project is not just about using your talents. You’ll join a team dedicated to fighting inequality and ending poverty and injustice around the world.

The volunteer cooperation program draws on the skills and expertise of hundreds of volunteers from all cultural backgrounds and walks of life, including professionals, retired and semi-retired people, and youth.

Job Description

This is a 12-month mandate in Takoradi, Ghana.

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in in about ten countries in Africa, Latin America, and Middle East over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.

Here’s what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with the Oxfam in Ghana and Friends Of The Nation who is the partner, the Advisor will contribute to:

  • Support the design and implementation of climate justice strategies aligned with programme priorities and community needs.
  • Provide technical guidance on climate adaptation, including coastal resilience, ecosystem-based approaches, and renewable energy transition.
  • Integrate gender-responsive and inclusive approaches while strengthening stakeholder engagement with key actors.
  • Support advocacy, policy influence, and documentation of learning, best practices, and impact.
  • Share and embody Oxfam's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy for any behaviour that violates the code of conduct, including sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse, intimidation, lack of integrity, corruption and fraud
  • Participate in development efforts in Canada during and after the mandate by contributing to the dissemination of the program, projects, partners, etc. through testimonials, life stories, photos, quotes, etc.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada
  • Have university degree in Climate Change, Environmental Science, Development Studies, or related field
  • Have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience related to this mandate. Have an understanding of climate policy and advocacy processes
  • Knowledge of gender-responsive climate approaches
  • Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required)
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite
