Tunisia – Data Protection Advisor

This is a 3–6-month assignment based in Tunis, Tunisia, involving travel to partners in the regions.


The assignment is part of the ‘Equality in Action’ Voluntary Cooperation Programme (VCP), which is being rolled out across 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020–2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in the countries where the programme operates in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam’s role is to support these organisations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalised people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalised people at the heart of all its work.


Here is what your day-to-day work will look like:

  • Working closely with members of the Oxfam team in Tunisia and the teams of partner organisations, the adviser will be responsible for:
  • Conducting a review of the organisations’ current data protection practices. Identifying vulnerabilities and risks, then mapping data flows and sensitive data;
  • Design the security architecture, set up and implement the system and procedures for data backup and handling;
  • Support the drafting of a policy compliant with international standards;
  • Design and deliver training on best practices to association staff;
  • Provide technical support to partners in applying best practices and facilitate their compliance;
  • Develop the deployment plan and document the processes.


For this role, you must:

  • Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status in Canada;
  • Hold a university degree in computer science, data management, archiving, or any other relevant field;
  • Have at least 3 years’ professional experience relevant to the role, including adult education training;
  • Be able to travel to the PCV’s areas of operation in Tunisia;
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Be fluent in spoken and written French (mandatory). Proficiency in Arabic and English would be an asset.
