Job Description

Mandate duration: 12 months Start date: As soon as possible

This is a 12-month mandate in Accra, Ghana.

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in in about ten countries in Africa, Latin America, and Middle East over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.

Here’s what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with the Oxfam in Ghana and the The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), the Advisor will contribute to:

  • Support learning exchanges between PPAG, Oxfam, and other feminist civil society actors. Design and deliver tailored training sessions on gender equality, safeguarding, feminist principles, power dynamics, and inclusive programming.
  • Support the review and implementation of safeguarding and gender equality policies across PPAG and Oxfam in Ghana. Provide technical assistance for gender mainstreaming and safeguarding integration in program design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Ensure that international standards on gender and gender-based violence (GBV) are taken into account in the planning and implementation of the volunteer cooperation programme.
  • Support project managers and partners in integrating gender into all stages of the project cycle (from design to evaluation).
  • Support the identification of women's rights organizations and feminist youth movements able to collaborate with Oxfam in the design and implementation of gender-sensitive programme and campaigns.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada
  • Have university degree in gender studies, social work, human rights, development studies, or other relevant fields.
  • Have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in gender justice and safeguarding advisory roles.
  • Have deep understanding of intersectionality, feminist principles, and power analysis.
  • Have experience in developing policies, training tools, and delivering participatory workshops.
  • Be familiar with Ghanaian cultural, legal, and policy frameworks on gender and child protection (asset).
  • Be fluent in English, spoken and written.
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite

    • 20% increases in the living allowance for one accompanying child (maximum of 2 children)
    • $1,500 CAD per year/child for school fees
  • A monthly amount for the rent

    • $200 CAD for additional baggage

  • A volunteer support program during your term and up to two months after your return to Canada
