Job Description

Mandate duration: 12 months Start date: As soon as possible

This is a 12-month mandate in Accra, Ghana.

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in in about ten countries in Africa, Latin America, and Middle East over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.

Here’s what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with the Oxfam in Ghana and the The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), the Advisor will contribute to:

  • Strengthen youth-centered SRHR Programs and support in building capacity and participation of Youth.
  • Support the design, delivery, and evaluation of youth-led SRHR initiatives that are age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and aligned with national policy frameworks such as the Ghana Adolescent Health Policy.
  • Provide technical assistance in developing educational materials, outreach campaigns, and peer education programs tailored to in-school and out-of-school youth.
  • Support the development of communication materials (flyers, videos, social media content) that provide accurate, stigma-free SRHR information to young people.
  • Facilitate training sessions and mentorship opportunities for youth leaders, peer educators, and community volunteers on reproductive health, rights, consent, body autonomy, and healthy relationships.
  • Promote meaningful youth participation in program design, monitoring, and advocacy activities through participatory approaches, and contribute to evidence-based advocacy on youth SRHR in collaboration with national and district-level health authorities, traditional leaders, parents, and civil society.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada
  • Have university degree in public health, youth development, education, gender studies, or other relevant fields.
  • Have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in adolescent health, SRHR, youth empowerment, or community engagement.
  • Have experience in designing or facilitating youth-led initiatives or peer education models.
  • Be familiar with Ghana’s Adolescent Health Policy, SRHR legal environment, and public health systems.
  • Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required. Knowledge of a Ghanaian local language is an asset.
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite

What we offer:

    • 20% increases in the living allowance for one accompanying child (maximum of 2 children)
    • $1,500 CAD per year/child for school fees
  • A monthly amount for the rent

    • $200 CAD for additional baggage
  • Advantageous medical insurance for you and the accompanying child(s)
  • A volunteer support program during your term and up to two months after your return to Canada
