Job Description

Mandate duration: 12 months Start date: As soon as possible

This is a 12-month regional mandate for Oxfam in Africa based in Senegal or Ghana

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in developing countries in inclusive, innovative, and sustainable development initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything we do.

Here's what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with Oxfam's Humanitarian team, who provides leadership to ensure that Oxfam and its partners are both ready and able to respond to humanitarian crises your mandate will be to:

  • Provide technical support and advice to OiA Country Office on mainstreaming gender throughout the project cycle ;
  • Advise on quality implementation of projects in line with organizational standards and global standards and international frameworks on gender and women’s rights;
  • Support the Gender teams in the region and countries with project and program design to ensure that gender in emergencies is well mainstreamed within concept notes and proposals;
  • Participate in country planning, strategy development and reviews to ensure gender in emergencies is fully integrated in strategic design.
  • Support country teams in the identification of local partners and stakeholders best placed to support or partner with Oxfam in the design and implementation of gender-sensitive projects and field activities.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
  • Have university degree in gender/women’s studies or any other relevant field;
  • Have 2 years of experience in humanitarian response preferably in field-based in Emergencies work in conflict or insecure environments
  • Have a good knowledge of the socio-political context in Africa.
  • Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required);
  • Master the Microsoft Office suite.

What we offer:

  • Monthly allowance for living expenses. 
  • 20% increase in living allowance for an accompanying child (maximum of 2 children).  1,500$ CAN per year/per child for schooling.
  • Monthly amount for rent;
  • Round trip flight with 2 checked luggages;
  • Round trip flight for accompanying child(ren).
  • 200$ CAD for additional luggage;
  • Advantageous medical insurance for you and the accompanying child(ren);
  • A volunteer support program during your mandate and up to two months after your return to Canada;
  • 20 days of vacation and other holidays;
  • Access to various training courses (E-Learning, etc.);
  • A rewarding experience with a well-known and recognized organization.
