Volunteering for an Oxfam-Québec cooperation project is not just about using your talents. You’ll join a team dedicated to fighting inequality and ending poverty and injustice around the world.

The volunteer cooperation program draws on the skills and expertise of hundreds of volunteers from all cultural backgrounds and walks of life, including professionals, retired and semi-retired people, and youth.

Job Description

Mandate duration: 6 months Start date: As soon as possible

This is a 6-month mandate in Amman-Jordan.

The mandate stems from the Equality in Action Voluntary Cooperation Program (PCV), which is being rolled out in 12 countries and 3 regions over an eight-year period (2020-2028). The PCV aims to increase the involvement of local partner organizations in countries of intervention in inclusive, innovative and sustainable initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam puts the rights of women, girls and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything we do.

Here's what your daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with Oxfam's in-country team members and partners, your mandate will be to:

  • Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current advocacy and influencing activities of VCP and its partners.
  • Support media and public engagement through preparing briefing materials, messaging, speaking notes, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Policy, Influencing and Media Manager, broader team and Partners, analyse identified policy issues and develop relevant, concise and timely positioning, messaging and advice.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, and training sessions to build the capacity of VCP partners in advocacy and influencing. Support partners on how to plan and implement advocacy campaigns.
  • In line with the Country Influencing Strategy and advocacy priorities, develop and execute policy and advocacy actions designed to effect specific systemic changes.
  • Develop a detailed advocacy and influencing strategy tailored to VCP.

An overview of our PARTNERS: Our local Jordanian partners encompass a diverse range of impactful organizations dedicated to various facets of development and empowerment. INJAZ inspires and prepares youth for productive futures through educational programs in entrepreneurship, employability, and financial literacy. Phenix promotes economic and social justice through research, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives. JOHUD, one of Jordan’s oldest and largest development organizations, enhances quality of life via programs in education, health, environment, and economic empowerment. Leaders of Tomorrow fosters civic engagement and social entrepreneurship among youth, while the Justice Center for Legal Aid ensures access to justice for vulnerable populations through free legal services. Forearms of Change empowers marginalized communities with social, economic, and educational programs, and IDARE promotes active citizenship and democratic engagement among young Jordanians. Together, these partners contribute significantly to the sustainable development and social welfare of Jordanian society.

For this mandate you must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
  • Have university degree in human science, law, social studies, or other relevant fields;
  • Have 5 years of relevant experience, particularly in policy, advocacy, or social change, preferably within the non-profit or development sector;
  • Have a good knowledge of the socio-political context in the Middle East;
  • Have good communication and facilitation skills;
  • Be fluent in English spoken and written (required); Arabic is an asset;
  • Master the Microsoft Office Suite.
