Volunteering for an Oxfam-Québec cooperation project is not just about using your talents. You’ll join a team dedicated to fighting inequality and ending poverty and injustice around the world.

The volunteer cooperation program draws on the skills and expertise of hundreds of volunteers from all cultural backgrounds and walks of life, including professionals, retired and semi-retired people, and youth.

Volunteers in Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East join local organizations working with vulnerable populations to create lasting change in their communities.

The Volunteer Cooperation Program, funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to involve Canadians in international cooperation efforts. Considering the criteria of the Volunteer Cooperation Program :

1. Candidates with a nationality from the same region of the country of the mandate may be eligible for the mandate. (Conditions apply).

2. You are not eligible for the program in your own country. However, you may be eligible in another country in the region.

Full-time commitment: It is important to note that a volunteer cooperation mandate requires a full-time commitment and that it is not allowed to have any other occupation (salaried job, consultancy work, teaching course load, etc.) for the duration of the mandate. Volunteers are non-salaried.

Terms of the program: 

In exchange for their commitment, volunteers are entitled to:

• A monthly living allowance

• A monthly housing allowance

• A medical insurance

• An airfare to and from the country of assignment.

• A Volunteer Support Program (VSP).

• Up to 2 children under the age of 18 covered for certain countries for a 12-month mandate. Conditions apply.

• 20 rest days (for a 12-month assignment or 1 rest day per month for a mandate of less than 12 months), in addition to local public holidays.

• An interesting variety of training courses.
