Job description

Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, the Senior Superintendent is responsible for helping to coordinate and supervise site work.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and maintains Magil safety program, including creating and influencing jobsite safety culture through mentorship and modeling. 
  • Provide support to project teams with schedule challenges and help develop and implement recovery plans. 
  • Oversees project progress and ensures performance, productivity, quality, and safety requirements are being met. 
  • Liaises with clients, consultants, and trades when escalation is required by site team. 
  • Supervise, direct, coach, train, and mentor the project teams on multiple sites. 
  • Assist teams with the vision of an entire project, help identify, and drive the project schedule’s critical path, anticipate constructability issues, troubleshoot and embed solutions in the construction plans and schedules. 
  • Work with the Site Superintendent and project management team to develop and implement a Project Execution Plan. 
  • Ensure prompt scheduling, coordination and effective cost control pertaining to project labor, equipment, and materials is being managed by site staff. 
  • Stays current with industry practices and seeks new and innovative construction methods and initiatives. 

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate or post secondary diploma/degree in a related discipline. 
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in field supervision preferred. 
  • Eligible for project security clearances.

Competencies

  • Reviews and understands the contract and subcontracts and help project teams with plans to identify and mitigate risks (e.g., scope gaps) and maximize opportunities to ensure that all financial targets, including budgets, forecasts, and profitability levels are achieved. 
  • Understanding of project scope and able to apply complex engineering principles to construction challenges and embed solutions in construction plans and schedules.
  • Ability to complete value engineering and define scope and limitations for pursuits. 
  • Thorough understanding of contract language and ability to identify and mitigate risks and identify and leverage opportunities
  • In-depth knowledge of and application of safety and environmental principles/ procedures/legislation and demonstrated experience in implementing a strong safety culture. 
  • Ability to mentor field staff in effective ways to lead site meetings with the client, consultants, trades, and own work force. 
  • Capable to present at client meetings or for project pursuit work. 
  • Expert understanding in management of general requirements on projects and communicating this skill to the field staff.

Experience

  • Experience with scheduling, monitoring, and mentoring others on forecasting resources. 
  • Ability to manage field staff on multiple projects, including coordination of all scopes.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience in the construction industry and company operations, including building materials, construction specifications, and methods and procedures. 
  • Experience mitigating grievance and employee relations issues. 
