Position Overview
The Winter Roads Labourer will assist the Public Works - Roads Department with road maintenance coverage overnight. The incumbent will be a highly motivated self-starter who brings a team-oriented approach, strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm to the role.
Summary Of Responsibilities
- Perform winter road maintenance night patrol
- Report conditions to the Public Works leadership team as required; makes requests for additional assistance on the roads.
- Prepare snow removal fleet vehicles for deployment.
- Snow plowing/clearing, sanding and salting of Public Works operations yard.
- Complete and submit highway patrol records as required.
- Perform and assist with maintenance of fleet vehicles Qualifications And Experience
- Valid G class Ontario Driver’s License
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
- Previous Roads construction and/or maintenance experience an asset
- Ability to effectively interact, consult, and communicate with employees
- Strong decision-making skills and abilities
- First Aid Certification an asset
- Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act requirements
Hours of Work, Job Details
- OPSEU Unionized
- Contract from November 2026 - April 2027
- Temporary Part Time hours – 24-32 per week, 8-hour shifts
- Overnight shift from 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m., every other weekend
