SALARY RANGE: $59,000 - $64,000 per annum

POSITION SUMMARY

Working closely with the Developer, Business Intelligence, the Junior Developer supports the Foundation’s reporting and analytics needs by building and maintaining Power BI dashboards and reports. Working with various stakeholders across the organization, this role supports the translation of our data into clear, accurate insights that will help inform fundraising strategy and operational decision-making.

The position focuses primarily on report development, along with supporting process automation where relevant. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, collaborative individual looking to sharpen their skills in data analytics within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Power BI Development – 70%

  • Build and update Power BI reports and dashboards using defined requirements and stakeholder guidance to support the Foundation’s efforts, for example:
    • Foundation key metrics (revenue, unique donors, year-over-year trends)
    • Fundraising program performance (donors acquired, donor retention, cost to acquire, ROI, attribution, conversion rates, average gift)
    • Campaign performance (commitments and revenue, progress to goal, cash flow, pledge collection and expected gifts to close)
    • Prospect pipeline and moves management insights
  • Work with existing data models and datasets with the data warehouse and source systems; direct experience with Blackbaud RE NXT backend and Infor SunSystems considered a plus.
  • Focus on usability, performance and consistency when building or refining existing Power BI reports, including application of established standards and templates.
  • Support the automation of recurring reports to improve efficiency and ensure timely delivery of insights.
  • Evaluate periodically the library of existing reports to ensure their usage and effectiveness continues to serve the needs of Foundation staff.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in data analysis, visualization, and tools. 

Stakeholder Collaboration and Requirements Gathering – 10%

  • Gather reporting requirements by participation in stakeholder meetings and interviews
  • Create and maintain project documentation (e.g., requirements summaries, timelines, roles and responsibilities) using established templates.
  • Schedule check-in/progress meetings with stakeholders, follow-up on action items and report on progress against milestones; from project inception through to completion.
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions by documenting feedback and supporting test execution.

Process automation – 10%

  • Support the automation of recurring reports and workflows; includes identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and identifying tools and applications to address various processes.
  • Help maintain and monitor automated processes, escalating issues when needed.

Documentation and Knowledge Transfer – 10%

  • Create report documentation that outlines clear report parameters, data sources, report logic and use cases.
  • Help develop and maintain a global data dictionary to ensure standardization of terminology and analysis across the Foundation.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 1-2 years work experience creating Power BI dashboards and reports that are based on articulated business needs with linked content, in-depth analytics, and nested parameters.
  • Applied knowledge of data warehouse design with a focus on understanding of ETL (extract, transform, load) framework and experience with relational databases.
  • SQL queries, Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integrated Services (SSIS) required; technical skills in T-SQL, DAX, Power Query (M) also needed and experience with Visual Studio, and VB.Net a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data governance, compliance, and IT security practices with a commitment to high attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Microsoft Certified in Power BI an asset, or at a minimum be able to demonstrate advanced proficiency and best practices of Power BI.
  • Experience with complex non-profits a definite asset as it will support success in this role.

  • The Foundation has a hybrid work model. Staff will be required to be in office a minimum of 2 days per week and will be required to have a safe home office set up for the remainder of the working days (specifics to be planned with your manager).
