Desktop Publishing Operator position opening immediately

This will be a great opportunity for you if you have a firm grasp of IT tools, especially the Microsoft Office suite, and a demonstrated interest in layout design as well as file preparation and verification. We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. You would be part of a strong and very friendly team. You would also be expected to work closely with the project management team and build productive working relationships with your coworkers.

Primary duties

• Ensure that the format and layout of translated files match those of the source version so they can be published in their final format.
• Prepare files for language processing steps, such as by transcribing text and reconstructing tables and non-editable images.
• Help project managers estimate the time required for desktop publishing tasks.
• Manage priorities and meet deadlines set by the project manager or project management team.
• Apply each client’s graphic design and layout preferences.
• Identify and reinsert any passages that may have been omitted during the layout process.
• Perform a visual inspection once the content is assembled in the final file format, making sure the client’s instructions are followed.
• Make effective use of work tools.
• Share relevant information and knowledge with other team members and project managers.

Qualifications

• At least five years of experience in desktop publishing or a related field
• Excellent command of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
• Excellent grasp of page layout concepts and techniques as well as the use of style sheets and templates
• Strong typing skills
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities at once
• Conscientiousness and strong attention to detail
• High level of efficiency and autonomy
• Proactivity and a willingness to work as a team with the other operators and with other groups within the Professional Services Centre
• Good understanding of French and English
• Degree in computer graphics, graphic design or a related field
• Assets: Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Articulate (Storyline and Rise), and familiarity with document accessibility checks and AODA/WCAG standards.
