JOB DESCRIPTION
Breakfast Club of Canada is currently seeking an Chief Accounting who will report to the Vice President, Finance and Administration. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organising, coordinating and supervising accounting operations.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of Accounting Operations
- Plan, organise, coordinate and supervise all operational accounting activities.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of accounting entries.
- Ensure the consistent application of accounting policies.
- Supervise and review activities relating to accounts payable, accounts receivable, donations, cash receipts and disbursements. Monitor fixed assets and depreciation.
Financial Close
- Plan and coordinate monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing activities.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses.
- Ensure the quality and reliability of financial information.
Compliance and Internal Controls
- Maintain a robust internal control environment.
- Ensure compliance with ASNPO standards and regulatory requirements (Imagine Canada).
- Oversee tax and parafiscal returns (GST, QST, T3010, tax receipts, etc.).
- Coordinate work relating to external audits and government audits.
- Develop and document accounting procedures.
Treasury Management Oversee bank reconciliations.
- Monitor financial positions on a daily basis.
- Monitor fund movements and payment authorisations.
- Assess investment and financial management requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of financial flow forecasts.
Continuous Improvement and Financial Systems
- Identify opportunities for process automation and optimisation.
- Participate in projects to implement or improve financial systems.
- Ensure the quality of financial data in accounting systems.
- Develop performance indicators related to accounting activities.
Team Management
- Supervise, motivate and develop the six-person accounting team.
- Set priorities and allocate the workload.
- Provide training and support the team’s skills development.
- Promote best accounting and financial practices.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
- CPA qualification required.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience across the full accounting cycle.
- People management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Knowledge of Salesforce, Dynamics and Business Central (an asset).
- Analytical skills and knowledge of business intelligence systems (an asset).
- Accounting experience in the non-profit sector (an asset).
- Bilingualism essential (French and English), both spoken and written (English is essential for meetings held several times a month with colleagues and partners across Canada).
