Job Description

The Assistant Kitchen Manager is expected to demonstrate strong work ethic, dependability, and teamwork. This role supports the Kitchen Manager in meal preparation and service, helping ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner while maintaining a positive rapport with campers. The ideal person for this position has high energy and stamina for long hours, values teamwork and community service, is motivated, and enjoys working with diverse clientele. As a member of the kitchen leadership team, the Assistant Kitchen Manager supports the Kitchen Manager in setting a positive example for staff by demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic. They contribute to team success by encouraging cooperation, supporting daily operations, and helping maintain high standards in work quality, attitude, and behaviour. This role helps foster a culture of accountability where each team member understands their responsibilities and contributes to shared goals.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing and serving meals to campers three times daily in a timely manner
  • Support gathering dietary restriction information for incoming groups and assist in preparing specialty meals as required
  • Help identify opportunities to improve kitchen processes
  • Assist with training and supporting kitchen staff in food preparation and hygiene practices to meet MPAC requirements
  • Support kitchen inventory and purchasing tasks as delegated
  • Assist in monitoring freezer, dry storage, and walk-in organization, including first-use needs to help reduce product waste
  • Help maintain accurate food inventory records and notify the Kitchen Manager when orders are needed
  • Assist in ensuring sufficient inventory is available for upcoming camper weeks and coordinate needs with administrative staff when required
  • Maintain sanitation and safety standards in the kitchen area
  • Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
  • Support kitchen cleanliness standards and help ensure cleaning tasks are completed regularly
  • Assist in maintaining ACQ requirements for the kitchen to help ensure compliance with inspections and menu verifications
  • Help manage kitchen task assignments and support staff in completing duties, including timely clean-up of all kitchen spaces including basement areas
  • Report incidents promptly and assist with completing incident reports accurately and as soon as possible after occurrence
  • Assist the Kitchen Manager with staff feedback and performance evaluations as requested
