MEDICAL SECRETARY - CASUAL

The Medical Secretary greets callers and visitors, provides information, and directs inquiries appropriately. Responsibilities include client check-ins, booking follow-up appointments, and providing administrative support to clinicians (e.g., chart management, scanning/faxing, and resource sharing), making this position essential to smooth clinical flow. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, the ability to prioritize urgent needs, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

As the first point of contact, the Medical Secretary helps maintain a welcoming reception area and responds professionally to challenging situations. The ideal candidate enjoys variety, is comfortable assisting beyond the front desk, and demonstrates compassion, attention to detail, and strict respect for confidentiality, with sensitivity to barriers clients may face in accessing health care.

THE COMPENSATION PACKAGE

  • Hourly rate, starting at $20 - $22
  • Flexible hours, no weekends

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Medical Office Assistant Diploma or experience working in a busy medical environment
  • Excellent communication skills and experience handling a busy multi-line telephone system
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of MS Office Products
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and prioritize competing demands with little supervision
  • Ability to work with marginalized people of diverse backgrounds with an inclusive and anti-oppressive lens

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Familiarity with medical terminology
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (Telus Practice Solutions Suite); willing to train
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health; willing to train
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve
