The Opportunity
The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated systems used in the continuous production of nitrile examination gloves. This includes high-speed dipping lines, chemical dosing systems, curing ovens, stripping systems, conveyors, robotics, vision inspection, and packaging automation. The role ensures maximum uptime, process reliability, and compliance with safety and quality standards (ISO 13485, GMP).
This is a newly created position to support our operational ramp-up. We are currently aiming to fill this role in summer 2026, with an anticipated start around July/August 2026.
What You Will Do
Automation & Controls
- Troubleshoot and repair PLC, HMI, VFD, and servo systems, including Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7 and Omron Sysmac
- Maintain and modify PLC/HMI programs, I/O systems, and control panels
- Diagnose faults in sensors, actuators, temperature/pressure transmitters, and instrumentation
- Calibrate process instruments, including temperature, level, flow, pH, and conductivity
- Maintain communication networks, including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, and Modbus
Production Equipment Support
- Support automated dipping lines, including former chain systems, coagulant tanks, latex/nitrile tanks, leaching tanks, and curing ovens
- Maintain automated chemical dosing and mixing systems
- Troubleshoot oven temperature controls and curing systems
- Maintain glove stripping, counting, stacking, and packaging automation
- Support vision inspection systems for pinhole detection and quality control
- Maintain conveyors, robotics, and case packers in the packaging area
- Assist maintenance, production, and engineering teams with active troubleshooting
Preventive, Predictive and Reliability Centered Maintenance
- Execute PM programs on automation and instrumentation
- Analyze downtime trends and implement corrective actions
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for process and equipment failures
- Recommend automation upgrades to improve uptime and efficiency
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work complies with Ontario Electrical Safety Code and plant safety standards
- Work in compliance with GMP and ISO 13485 requirements
- Participate in lockout/tagout procedures
- Support audits and documentation for regulated medical device production
Continuous Improvement
- Work with Engineering and CI teams on process optimization
- Assist with new equipment commissioning and line start-ups
- Improve reliability of dipping line speed, temperature consistency, and defect detection

What You Bring
Required
- Diploma or Certificate in Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Instrumentation and Control Technician 447A
- 3+ years’ experience in industrial automation in a continuous manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and instrumentation, including Siemens SIMATIC PCS 7 and Omron Sysmac
- Experience with process control systems, including temperature, flow, pH, conductivity, and chemical dosing
- Ability to read electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Knowledge of industrial communication networks, including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, and Modbus
- Familiarity with CMMS systems
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to identify root causes and restore equipment safely and efficiently
- Process-oriented mindset with a strong understanding of how automation impacts production flow, quality, and equipment reliability
- Ability to work independently during equipment breakdowns while escalating issues appropriately when needed
- Strong documentation skills, including the ability to record troubleshooting steps, modifications, corrective actions, and follow-up recommendations
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance, production, engineering, and quality teams
- Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve uptime, reliability, safety, and process performance
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial machinery.
- The role requires standing, walking, and physical activity, including working with tools and equipment, and may involve repetitive motions.
- Physical demands may include lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces, as required to perform maintenance and repair activities safely.
- The position may require shift work, overtime, and on-call availability, based on operational needs.
- No travel is required for this role.
What We Offer
Compensation
The expected hourly rate for this position is $44 per hour. This position will be eligible for a merit increase in August, 2026. Additional premiums may apply, including evening, night, weekend, or other shift premiums where applicable.
