Draftsperson

Cahill Fabrication is seeking eager and dynamic candidates for a Draftsperson position in St. John’s, NL. As a Draftsperson, you will support project execution by producing accurate and detailed drawings that directly contribute to successful fabrication and construction outcomes. You will develop and continuously refine your technical drafting expertise by interpreting preliminary data, field notes, and sketches to create precise and buildable drawings in accordance with company standards.

Working under the guidance of the Project Manager, you will contribute to the planning and coordination of drawing deliverables, including shop drawings for fabrication, while ensuring clarity, accuracy, and efficiency throughout the drafting process.

What will you do?

  • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) to produce detailed and concise drawings and layout plans with technical accuracy under some supervision from the Project Manager.
  • Interpret information from preliminary data, field notes, and sketches in order to create accurate drawings and plans and follow company drafting procedures.
  • Communicate with producing and detailing companies on drawing related deliverables including shop drawings for fabrication.
  • Utilize software to nest components in order to minimize wastage.
  • Establish and build good relationships with peers and clients by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner, exercising initiative and judgment to complete recurring assignments.
  • Prepare Quantity take-offs as required.
  • Provide input on continuous improvement opportunities in drafting, detailing, piece marking, tracking, etc.
  • Other duties as identified by, communicated by, and agreed upon with direct supervisor.

What will you bring?

  • Technical diploma with minimum 3 years of experience in civil/structural engineering, with an emphasis on large scale industrial projects. Offshore experience considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and offshore codes for civil/structural engineering practices.
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and MS Office suite of products.
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills.
  • The confidence to work independently, sometimes with limited direction.
  • The capacity to efficiently plan, organize and prioritize multiple assigned tasks.
  • Proficient with reading drawings and specifications.
  • Works individually and as a team player.
  • Attention to detail and organization is fundamental.
