Position Overview: The Electrical Controls Designer/Drafter is responsible for preparing technical drawings of electrical wiring systems used in plant automation/control systems. They will prepare schematics, drawings, and other critical documentation based on information provided by engineers, electricians, original equipment manufacturers, and customers. They will apply their knowledge of design and engineering to illustrate visual instructions and relate technical specifications. These drawings are then used by electrical workers to build and test control systems as well as install, upgrade, or repair equipment and wiring in a variety of industrial plants. 

Salary 65,000-80,000 + benefits and 401k. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  •  Collaborates with engineers, testers, and field service technicians to receive information and resolve design issues.
  • Prepare and maintain specifications, instructions, bills of materials and other documentation for the system.
  • Evaluate drafts and proposals to provide cost estimates and ensure plans meet both internal and external regulations.
  • Produce neat, accurate, and legible electrical drawings packages according to company procedures and drafting standards with minimal supervision.
  • Work must be accurate, very thorough, and must pay attention to detail.
  • Assist in preparation of drawing packages for issue, including printing drawings, making copies, assembling drawings & document packages, and assuring package completeness.
  • Design Ability - Competent in design method and industry specific principals.
  • Knowledge of governing codes.
  • Knows what coordination pieces to look for when working on a project.
  • Layout and design system equipment.
  • Contributes to the creation of project budgets.
  • Contributes creative solutions to resolve design and electrical panel construction conflicts.
  • Supports and explains reasoning for decisions. Exhibits sound and accurate judgment.

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Education/Experience: Associate degree in electrical design, electronic technology, or equivalent field; or two to three-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in electrical design and electronics technology.
  • Three or more years’ experience in using CAD to develop electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Language Ability: Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create concise documentation for custom PLC code if required.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be familiar with computer hardware and software applications. A working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLCs (SLC, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix), and Wonderware HMI is a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
